Frank Hackett

Frank has had a life long family involvement in the Port Football Club with Franks father played for St. Marks and played in the 1915, 1920 & 1921 Premiership sides and was the original Port Football Club secretary- treasurer in 1941 after our name change from St. Marks. Franks uncle Jim played in the 1912, 1914 & 1921 Premiership sides. Jim also was a Club Best & Fairest. With this background Frank was always going to play for the green & whites.
Frank began his career as a player in 1957 and finished playing in 1970. He played mostly on the wing. Frank missed the seasons 1961 – 1964 and in 1963 he played league football for West Adelaide. During this period Frank also played football for Payneham, Jervois & Willaston.
Frank played in six league premierships at Port, 1958, 1959, 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1970.
The pinnacle of Frank's career was as the coach of the memorable 1970 Premiership in which he also played. After 10 games the Port league side was second to bottom on the table and had to win every game after this to win the Premiership, this was an amazing achievement and all those involved at the time recall this season with immense pride and satisfaction.
Frank is a life member of the Port Football Club and his father was a life member of the St. Marks Football Club.
Frank has been on the Committee of the Port Football Club Past Players & Officials since its inception, a period of 38 years. He was also a Chairman of the Port Football Club Past Players & Association.
Frank is still very active around the Club and volunteers for all working bees and continues to do maintenance work around the Club.

Denis Sayner

Denis first played league football for Port in 1954 and finished playing 1962. Denis played in four premiership sides, 1955, 1956, 1958 & 1959.
He was a renowned as a very fast footballer and played mainly as a wingman. For many years the centre line consisted of Denis Sayner on one wing with Frank Hackett on the other and in the middle playing centre was the great John Connelly.
Denis was Treasurer of the Club in 1959. He continued to have a very influential role at the Club for many years after his playing days being the Club auditor from 1968 until 1993 a role he did free of charge for 26 years. Denis as an accountant was instrumental in offering the financial advice which saw the building of these clubrooms. Denis chaired the committee that was set up to plan the building of this Clubrooms. His foresight and assistance to the Club in his off field role is one the major reasons we occupy the magnificent facilities we have today. Denis is a life member of the Port Football Club.
Denis had another sporting career outside of football in that he was very successful at that as a runner having run in the Stawell Gift and being a winner of the Port Pirie Gift.
Denis is a devoted family and his family have all had an involvement with the Club over the years and we do welcome Paul one of Denis son's to hear our tribute to Denis.
