Match Report vs West Semi Final 6th Sept
We came into this game nearly at full strength with our confidence high. We focussed on living for the moment and identifying acts of inspiration and motivation. The game started at a fast pace and we were applying excellent pressure at all contests.
We were doing well in the clearances with all onballers sticking to their task. Burf and Normy were effective at stoppages as our team tackle count was again high.
All our on ballers were combining well and we were creating opportunities and converting. Willo was a strong presence at full forward and Kendall was again finding plenty of the ball. We were in front at quarter time with a good feeling amongst the whole group. The second quarter started well with the team maintaining the same game plan. We dominated this quarter getting first to ball and all players displaying team qualities. The backline was outstanding with Luey and Clarke strong and having an impact. Feathers and Casey were combing well and Smiley was back to his best. Cox did the perfect hip and shoulder which was an act of inspiration that ran through the team. We finished the second quarter strongly leading by 36 points but injuries to Waters and Hall were concerns. The third quarter was disappointing. We stopped running and our pressure was minimal. We were not accountable and our man on man tactics had disappeared.
West were dominating and we were fortunate that they kicked poorly with 10 points. They got three points up in the final term and with our onballers tiring we were in trouble. But the whole team then showed courage and character and a resilient attitude. Treloar was moved forward with immediate results and Casey was simply outstanding. Mudgy marked strongly and converted and the game was ours. We were now through to our second consecutive Grand Final. Our motivation was to get into the Grand Final – NOW IT IS TO WIN IT
