John Pirie Secondary School South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy (SAASTA) students spent the day at the Port Football Clubrooms with Port Power officials and legends Russell Ebert and Gavin Wanganeen.
The primary focus of the day was a two-hour leadership module, future employment opportunities and a football skills session. Students also enjoyed a counter meal at the clubrooms after the completion of their workshop.
The session coincided with a media launch for the upcoming 2010 Aboriginal Power Cup, which is to be held on June 11-12, with the two finalists from both male and female teams to play off in the Grand Final before the Power vs. Sydney game.
The Port Football Club sponsored the JPSS Aboriginal Power Cup teams last year, which saw the girls team, coached by Matt Gale take out the Aboriginal Power Cup and both the boys and girls team win the Tandanya 'Deadly Team Spirit' Award.
The Port Football Club will once again sponsor the JPSS SAASTA teams and we wish them all the best with their endeavours for further success at this years Aboriginal Power Cup. Port footballers Normy Wombat, newcomer Nathan Agius and Matt Gale will lead the teams during this year's carnival.
